InCASE: Communication, Attachment, Stress Management and Ethics.

The general aim of this project is to enhance the knowledge of participants in ethical issues, communication and assertiveness skills, dealing with attachment issues and stress management.   The project was financed by Erasmus+, and included participants from Spain and Turkey.  Among the Maltese participants were staff from Conservatorio Vincenzo Bugeja as well as staff from Agenzija Appogg.

Different learning methods were used throughout the project such as

  • theoretical background on the different topics
  • the sharing of experiences and best practice amongst the participants coming from different fields
  • self reflexive exercises for participants to address their personal needs

Since most of the persons attending the training course have been working in this sector for a number of years and have had several training experiences, these methods of learning were adopted to address their different abilities.

The main objective of this training course was to equip the participants with the necessary skills to set the appropriate boundaries, manage challenging behaviour more effectively, be able to contain adolescents with attachment difficulties and provide them with empathic skills, follow ethical procedures where necessary, work within their limits of competence and be able to manage stress effectively being contextualized in a highly volatile work environment.

The main objectives of this project can be summarized as follows:

  • the staff is more receptive and open in their views towards training
  • enhance the skills of the front line staff working with adolescents in care who exhibit challenging behaviour
  • there is exchange of ideas and good practices between different participants from different countries
  • there is self-observation and self reflection to gain insight on one’s personal position while working with this group of young people
